Playing Rules at a Glance

Teams: 4 players on playing surface plus 1 goalkeeper

Roster: Maximum of 15 players including goalkeepers

Mandatory Equipment

·    Inline Skates
·    HECC approved helmet
·    Elbow pads
·    Gloves designed for hockey
·    Knee and shin protection

Major Penalties: Carry an automatic game misconduct penalty

Minor Penalties: Team cannot be reduced to less than 2 players

Game Misconduct Penalties: Player of Coach is suspended for the balance of the game, and next scheduled game.

Body-Checking: No intentional body-checking allowed.

Face-Offs: Take place at face-off spots only.

Fighting: Major plus a Game Misconduct plus 1-game suspension.

Hand Pass to a Teammate: Permitted in Defending Zone.

Time-out: Each team is permitted 1 - 30 second time-out per game

Mercy Rule: Eight (8) goal differential after two periods.

Length of Game

·    Winter/Fall: 3 - 10 minute periods stop time.
·    Spring: 3 - 12 minute periods stop time

Player Eligibility

·    Every Player must be a member of the Roller Hockey Alliance, and have a signed Shout Out Sports Release of Liability on file.
·    8th graders cannot play Varsity
·    Spring Session ONLY: Each player is required to play for the school they attend.  A photocopy of each players student ID must be on file to be eligible to play.
·    Winter/Fall ONLY:  Players are not required to attend the school of the team they are playing for.  All other eligibility rules apply.

Any player rostered for three (3) games for their varsity team is no longer eligible to play Junior Varsity.
